I also had the insert disk problem but I fixed it by getting the correct motherboard drivers for my system. Game has some graphics glitches, but im going to try fiddling with graphics settings

You have to disable User Account Control, the thing that asks warns you if a program changes the memory on the Vista based PC. Doing this is simple, click 'Start', 'Control Panel', 'User Accounts', 'Turn User Account Control on or off', then, simply uncheck the box and restart your machine...

I can't even start up Battlefield 2142. Installed it but when I start running it, it says that you need to insert the disk, which I did of course.

OK, kindof hard to distinguish between EA crashes and OS crashes, but here is what I see different between SP_32 and XP_64:
Occasional crash to desktop (even without VOIP).
Enabling VOIP makes BF2142 puke, and puke HARD! Turn it off!!
QoS should be uninstalled entirely if you actually want to play BF2142 on XP_64.
Sometimes the system will begin to thrash and use swap regardless of swap size and settings. This causes mid-action freezes, and being dropped from the servers.

1- graphic glitches, more noticible with dvi vs vga, if your in game res is set same as desktop before loading, no problems.
2-You have to run the game as admin.
3-Manully updated punkbuster
runs good after these "fixes"

Much lower frame rate, minor glitchs in graphics, seems like the Aero theme and possibly indexing cause some of the lower frame rate as turning these off stabilizes the game somewhat, went back to XP for gaming, use the dual boot system if you really want Vista now.

Installed with admin rights on Vista Home Premium. Couldn't use compatability mode for any other o.s. Would always ask for cd even though cd was in drive. Runs fine after setting to "always run as admin". Vista drivers suck so far.. Slower than Xp by far. Nvidia might start losing gaming ground if they dont shape up..
