The autoplay feature won't work until you install "WinG", which is DirectX ancestor.
To install WinG, you have to execute "install.exe" from the root directory of the CivNet CDROM.
Once it's done, Autoplay should run and you should be able to install CivNet without issues. However, you should install it under either the default directory or at least a short directory to avoid problems that could arise with long file names.
Then search "civnetp3.zip" on the web and unzip the files over the existing file under your CivNet installation to update the game.
WOrks well with Windows XP, should works well with Windows 2000 too.
