Steps
I went through to make this work:
Set “PNP OS installed” to “no” in your BIOS (important!) Up
until this point if you haven’t attached any drivers to your DXR3
decoder card, it is most likely listed as “Multimedia Controller”
in your “Other” device list in the device manager with an
exclamation mark to indicate that it doesn’t work.
The thing to realize is that the DXR3 is actually an OEM’d version of
the Sigma Designs Hollywood + decoder card.
So, go download beta 1 of the drivers and unzip them to a
temporary directory. DO
NOT execute “setup.exe” of this package… it will install
Sigma’s DVD Station which is a pile and never worked for me anyway.
Go to your Creative Encore 8x CD and navigate down to:
driversEnglishwinnt40
and execute the file NT40DRV.EXE
Reboot.
(you may get an error box about the reboot call from your temp
directory – just OK it).
When you come back into Windows, go back to the Creative CD and install the
application PC-DVD as normal.
Reboot.
