Received the follow messages:
1) What I did was copy apcompat from W2k cd to a temp folder on my hard drive, put my F18 cd in my cdrom drive, run apcompat, select the nt4sp5 choice, browse to and run the setup on the f18 cd. At first it appeared to fail so I right clicked on my task bar, opened the task manager, applications, and ended the apcompat program, this left the language setup
portion of the F18 install program still running, I ran it and the game installed and runs fine in Win2k.
2) Won't install under Win2k, however if you install the game under Win9x, then use the files from the install under Win2k, it will work provided you enter the registry details taken from the Win9x installation. Runs well under Win2k!
3) Here's how to set up Jane' s F/A 18 on W2K - As I had some trouble in finding decent info about this, I'd thought I'd post. Makes a change from asking a question I guess?
Here's what works for me.
1. Use APCOMPAT.exe to run Setup.exe from the Install CD. This is found in the 'Support' directory of the full W2K release cd. I choose the options 'NT4 SP 5' and didn't tick anything else.
2. It looks like the install is hanging so do an 'End Task' on APCOMPAT.exe. This takes you to the 'languages question' of InstallShield.
3. I chose 'Full Install'. Everything writes onto HD (D: in my case as a Win98 C/ W2K D dual boot).
4. Install finished badly with a 'ATL.DLL unicode error'. Oh well, not to worry...
5. Install the patch 'f18upd01'.
6. I installed the 'Run Without CD' patch from GameCopyWorld. I get a crash on starting up without it.
7. Run's fine on a W2k Pro, PIII/500 128mb, Creative TNT1 (using NVIDIA 3.7.8.0) , SBLive, Sidewinder Pro, Beige Case :)
4) To get Jane's F/A18 to install, use the APCOMPAT.EXE utility found on the windows 2000 CD. Once installed, the game will crash when run. To fix this, install the latest patch. The game will then run
