Received the follow messages:
1) Application installs fine. Massive performace hit to Win2000 system after installation. 3 machines we have installed it on run a lot slower, this is fixed by removing the product. I'm awaiting a call back from McAfee at the moment.
2) McAfee version 4.5 installed fine and was running seemingly okay but every time I run a scan the screen goes black and all I can do is hard reboot.
3) Basically if you installed this application your whole PC would take a massive performance hit.
A right-click on the dekstop to bring up 'Display Properties' could take anything from 3-5 minutes to appear.
Double-click on Control Panel could result in a 5 minute wait.
I spoke to Network Associates technical support line with reference to this (We have this product company wide and all of our Windows 2000 workstations were showing this problem)
The chap I spoke to told me that this was a known issue, they didn't know what kind of time scale to fix and a 'fix' was to disable the e-mail and the 'on the fly' scanning.
This was obviously not a valid fix.
This message is to basically say that things have escalated and we have managed to get a senior European technical support manager involved (I wont give names at this stage)
They are now seriously looking into this issue and I've been told that somebody will get back to me very soon on this.
Norton AntiVirus (Including the e-mail scanning) does not show any of these faults at all.
4) I found a way to bypass the massive performance hit McAfee VirusScan causes in Win2k: By turning off the Systemscan only for .DLL-Files, the number of files scanned only during the boot sequence decreases from nearly 1200 to something around 300. This accelerates booting up as well as working without a huge loss of security.
