I, too, was having a problem with Myst crashing several seconds after startup. It had something to do with QuickTime. I finally fixed it by (1) Installing the version of QuickTime that came with the software, and (2) going into the QuickTime "Video Settings" tab and deselecting the "Enable DCI" option.
It works with QT 6.5, but I couldn't get it to work with the latest QT 7.

I bought Myst trilogy (with Myst masterpiece inside) a few days ago. Myst has some problems to run with new products (not XP but QuickTime).
Easy way :
1. Uninstall the Game Myst masterpiece
2. Uninstall your actual version of QuickTime (in windows config panel). Yes, doing this sucks but you have to or the game will not run well.
3. Install the Game Myst masterpiece and THE QuickTime which is given by the game during its installation (Quick Time 4 for me).
4. Lauch QuickTime Player, go to preferences > "Streaming Proxy" and change to "Sound Out". Here choose a Rate of 48,100 Hhz or more (bad sound if not).
5. Launch the game
6. The menu is at the top of the screen, move the mouse there and click one time to bring the menu, if you need to.
It works for me, on XP with sp2.

Installs fine, but crashes on start. I've tried win98 compatibility mode, forcing 640x480 resolution, using quicktime 4 and using graphics compatibility options from nvidia control panel... does not work.

The game installs and runs fine. But I can't see anything. The second I go to the top and select Exit from the menu it runs the credits which I can see just fine.

That is the game running with no video.

That is how my compatibility settings are setup.
Anyone out there have the same problem?

Well, It's a pity that I had so many problems to run this exceptional game in XP platform.
The last platform in which I could run this game was Windows 2000 rofessional.
I'll try to reinstall this version in a partition of my computer.

I just installed the game as it is, I chose not to install QT 4 or DirectX 6.1 (or the version it asks to install). The game appeared to start correctly, BUT no menu came up or such.
The window also appears to only appear if you move the mouse to the edge of the screen.

Just set the compatibility to Win98, works fine except for the sound (creaking noise under all sounds)

Installation proceeds fine. The game starts up fine until I click on the book to enter the actual game. The screen then goes blank and the game HOGS the CPU. It takes a ton of patience for me to then shut the faulty application and continue using Windows without a restart
