Just plug in the usb cord from the camera ....camera is then auto detected.... now you can drag and drop pictures from the new drive in "my computer" . I didn't try the nikon software with xp, but supposedly it runs on xp. You might be better off not installing it and just process your pics in Photoshop or Psp7.
