You need to install QuickTime 2.1.2 from the disk (a bit scary, but it appears to coexist with the latest Apple QuickTime release 6.X). It also requires 16-bit color (I have to adjust this manually on my ATI Radeo 9700 TX board), and would prefer 640x480 (but will run OK at 800x600 or possibly larger).

Another idea: after installing Obsidian, right click on obsidian.exe, choose the compatibility tab, and set the boxes for Windows 95 compatibility, 640x480, and no visual themes. Now you only have to make sure you're showing 16-bit color when you play - the switch in screen resolution is automatic.
