Received two messages:
1) Works with compatibilitypatch
2) Still does not run under Win 2000 even with the compatability
patch. If you click the item it starts to access the cd but then does nothing. There are not even any error messages.
3) Was able to get Sid Meyer's Alpha Centauri working using the Windows 2000 Application Compatibility Toolkit found at http://msdn.microsoft.com/compatibility/ I used the QFixApp utility with the "Win95VersionLie.dll" option checked. Works fine with Rage Pro drivers for me.

4) Works perfectly straight out of the box. It will mess up your desktop color settings in subtle ways immediately after a session - just re-select your theme from the display properties to reset them.

Sid Meier´s Alpha Centauri/Alien Crossfire
The Win2K Compatibility
Update is required to make SMAC/X work. SMAC/X will crash on load if the
Update isn't installed. I have minor problems with transparent unit
colors on the map and occasional garbled text in the Info Window, but I
believe those are due to the ATI Rage Mobility-P's beta Win2K drivers. http://www.aliencrossfire.com
