Received the follow messages:
1) S/PDIF is working and everything else to with an Abit BP6 using the included
drivers.
2) Windows 2000 includes bare minimum WDM drivers for
the AWE64 series. However...SPDIF output does not work at all, according to
Microsoft Knowledge base. ( http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q226/2/51.ASP?LN=EN-US&SD=gn&FR=0).
Microsoft points to creative saying 'get new
driver from them', Creative points to microsoft 'use WDM drivers, awe64 has
reached end of life'. I find this tough to swallow, since the awe64
lineup is so widespread, and works under NT4 without issue. I could never get the card to work on Asus P2L97,
assigning IRQs manually, switching slots etc etc. Even afetr disabling all built
in ports (COM1 & 2, LPT1) and ACPI to free up as many possible IRQs, it
still failed. The system is quite bareboned, C366/96mb P2L97,
i740 8mb IRQ10, Realtek PCI 10/100 ethernet using IRQ11...nothing else.
