This fix will allow you to run your 5300usb scanner in Windows 2000 and XP for units shiped with PaperPort 6.x software. I have tested it on two computers using this fix and has worked just fine on both occasions. As you may know, the installer won't let you install the software on 2000 or XP systems. This can be fixed by editing a one small text-based file in the install directory. First you should download the Win2k upgrade driver from visioneer. Then you need to copy the "Base" directory (located in the "Vision" directory on the CDRom) to the hard drive. Then you need to open the "Scanners.ini" file with notepad. You will see a line in the file that says "WindowsNT=NO". Change this to "WindowsNT=YES", save the file, and run setup! After the setup is complete, you will need install the update. Reboot and the scanner should work like normal. Paperport print drivers do not work in Win2k or XP. If you need to print from paperport, you need to upgrade to a new version that supports 2000/XP.
