Error on CD not detecting on base install. Use upgrade from LA to 1.14, or install Balance of Power expansion pack and everything works fine.

Install game as
usual, but don't install DirectX when it prompts you to. Go to
winntsystem32 and copy dsound.dll to dsound.vxd. (Gets you by
the 'can't find dx' error). Download patch from http://www.concentric.net/~Dstaines/nt40games/files/PATCHxvt.ZIP.
Unzip and copy to XvT base directory. Run 'patch.exe -w'. Then
sit back and enjoy... everything works fine!
(You may have a problem with the
intro video - on some installations it works, some it doesn't.
Just skip it if you need to).
