Actually the whole not it saying insert disk 1 might be if you have multiple drives or one that's a virtual drive more mounting files. You have to disable all the drives but that one and it should work.

does not recognize the CD, so the game cannot start up. I.E. ; On startup: "Please insert cd 1" when cd is in drive. Too bad... good game.

Cannot get the fast panning to slow down nor my PC freezing up when changing the disks

Works, with a few problems. First, windows interrupts the disc switching process. So, put the new disc in, say "try again" and then continue. Also, there is one point in the game where you have to grab a rope and then hop through a window. For this I needed CPUKiller; modern computers do it too fast.
