I have a new pc, and installed windows xp pro sp2 (with all patches).

recently, there is this weird problem. when i boot, it hangs for about 1-2 minutes right before the windows XP logo with blue progress bar. so basically, i get a blank screen, then the windows xp logo fades in and everything boots normally.

if i restart, there is no hang, its only if i dont use the computer for a bit.

whats happening?

Check the BIOS settings for booting order. Try putting your hdd first where the xp is installed.

UPDATE:

i've realised that it only happens from a shutdown. if i shutdown my pc completely and turn it on 5 sec later, i get the black screen. if i restart from windows, instant boot...

i've also noticed that my cd-rom drive is not detected, unless i reboot.... this must be related?
