;( Hello,

I bought 256MB SDRAM DIMM. I had 128MB and repaced 1 64MB with the 256MB.
Now my system recognise only 196MB.

After looking on the internet i discovered that my old RAM are PC100's and the new 256MB is a PC133. (The salesmen where I also bought my computer just give me this memory type)

So I have the following questions:

1. Why recognise my system the half of the 256MB
2. How can I fix it. (or do I have to bring the 256MB back?)

Thanks a lot
Albert

Either that, or the slot can only read single-sided ram modules.

Hi,

This PC supports the 256MB P133 SDRAM.
Also it;s support 2 different Mhz modules.
All the bios settings i've checked.
Even I installed only the 256MB module and it recognizes 128MB

My conclusion is: the module is broken

Thanks all for the help

It's most likely not broken! Your motherboard probably doesn't support double sided dimm's. That was the issue with a friend of mine and one of my old motherboards. Go to crucial's website and get some of their ram specifically for your board.

That sounds possible & would not surprise me at all... good possible point!

Um, didn't I say that above?

From look of it look like your motherboard can only read 64MB per side or 128MB double sided dimm's I take you have old system? possable LX or BX chipset.

Hi all,

The 2x 128MB was not the solution and the 256MB module tested and not broken.
So I'm as far as a few days ago.
Considering the LX or BX chipset i have collected all the specs of my PC and Motherboard. Maybe this will clear my problem.

Thanks a lot AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR

the motherboard you have can only take up 256MB max memory, Another words you can only use "2" 128MB double sided dimm's PC100 or PC133 = 256MB

whas it ECC - registered or none? could be that also..?

i had alwasy heard to NOT mix pc100 and pc133 - as it will cause problems.

i also head if you have a pc100 mobo, that pc133 will run at pc100 or pc66, but will never again run @ 133.

Not True. I used to run my current memory in a Celeron at PC100 and it is running fine at PC133 now.

The solution was very simple...

A Single sited 256MB RAM Module works perfect
