Did u do a fresh install of Windows? Always best to
That score looks about right for a standard clocked card. There are some in the 10000's but they seem very overclocked.

Why did I build a dual. Let me count the ways.
1) I've had a dual p3 800 for last 2 years and its been excellent for multitasking (runnung 10-20 apps simultaneously)
2)I Compress Divx and DVD video. Lots of it. These always use both.
3)a given app does not need to support smp to take advantage. Merely runing lots of non smp apps at once, they will all remail very responsive.
In task manager, click view>select columns>Thread count. (add threads to viewable in task manager)
you will see most apps are runing multiple threads anyways, and they all benefit it. Windows will juggle the threads onto both cpu's evenly.
my machine is so responsive and fast its like goshdarned candy.
