56k modem and windows 2000

Hi All, I just installed W2k and it wont detect my aopen 56k pci modem. the modem has a rockwell chipset as well Im getting a pci simple communications controller error. It wont install. I have all the latest drivers for aopen too.

Rockwell's HCF chipset is a software-based chipset (the HC is short for "host controller") that is used in popular PCI card modems.
 
The modem need drivers that you may find on this site and do not forget the required Wave-modem driver:

Check for any Firmware update that upgrades the modem capabilities.
 
There are some other preliminary steps: create communication ports.

It's long ago, and I don't remember the details but I had a US robotics PCI modem I just couldn't get to work in W2K (just wanted a fax). I ended up buing a cheapo usb modem to serve as a fax machine. The issue was that W2K is quite uncooperative when it comes to adding virtual COM ports i.e. COM3. You should find some info by using Google looking for combinations of Windows 2000, viritual com port, internal modem, Com 3 and similar.

I gave up and installed XP and it detected everything; didnt have to install any drivers whatsoever.
