Hey all,

after about 4 hrs of sourcing around i still havent found the a solution as to why my vid card/game locks up, i load Battlefield 2 settings are all on medium, and within 5 mins of gameplay the game locks up, and its rather hard to get back to windows, but not impossible. Ive checked that the vid card isnt overheating, i managed to get bf2 2 load in windowed format, so that i could monitor the cards temp, *complements of nvidia software* and its not getting above 80 degrees, with 140+ being threshold. Ive contemplated that the pwr supply might be the drama, but come to the conclusion that its doubtfull. ive managed to get directx 9.0c installed on sp2, and thats working fine, ive even tried downloading all vid card drivers from 71.89 till the beta 77.XX but they seem to cause more drama than good "im removing the drivers in safe mode to ensure all appropriate files are removed and arent in use". atm im running the 71.89 drivers, and they seem to allow the game to run for upto 30odd minutes at a time "if im lucky".

im currenrly running a P4 2.6gug, Gigabyte GA-8PIE1000 mboard, 4x 256ddr 400mhz @ duel channel, XpertVision 6600GT 128m and sata 200g hdd. on xp sp2.

Guys IM LOST as to what this is gonna be and im beginnning to regret purchasing this video card. it had awesome cred. but im starting to beleive all the forums im not starting to see pop up about how shithouse this vid card really is. Whats caught my attention as well, it doenst seem to me like NVIDIA has come to the party on this either. most forums that ive seen including nvidia's site, dont have a responce from the company and or a reasonable answer.

Im writting tonight in this forum for results, if ur going to repeat the same crap that ive gone on about tonight, please dont, im seriously in need of help, I just cant think of anything else its gonna be.

Cheers

I dont care what the mfr says is a good temp your card is overheating...

50C is a good max..

put a large house fan blowing directly on your system case open and test.

I had the exact same problem it turned out that it WAS the power supply ....or at least a dodgy molex connector in my case. every other program on my system ran fine except BF2, I tried everything i could find to determine if it was a hardware or software problem but got no results .....eventually i got a pop up error from my msi 6600gt card saying that it wasnt getting sufficient power and that it was winding all settings back down which may make my system unstable......mind you this was after 36 hours of non stop testing and benchmarking programs to try and replicate the error....all i did was disconnect the connector from the card pulled the card out (mines agp by the way) gave the contacts a squirt with some co2 contact cleaner put it back in and hey presto not a problem since....cant hurt to try as im not the only person to have the same problem with the 6600 GT one of my friends had the exact same problem except his power supply was dying but the symptoms were the same

Elvis, I live with 2 other people with the same cards, and they run with temps of excess of 80+ and their card isnt doing what mine is, and thats with only 2 fans running inside case + gpu fan. Im running,2 additional fans alongside the cpu and gpu fans, im guessing that there is sufficent circulation to keep temps down.

Spleen, im heading out tomoz to get a 500watt pwr supply, *thought i might as well go the whole hog and get the better one ut there* that way i know that i can rule the pwr supply out of the picture if it continues to freeze.

as u said, i can run every other game except BF2....

Thanks guys

New Pwr supply, and BOBS YA UNCLE.. not a glitch at all, also bought new case + 2 gig of ram, so... i guess its all contributing to it now, but its a 450watt, and it seems to be holding up fine, even overclocking the card now, and not a prob. running gpu @600mhz, and ram at 1.13ghz, not overally hot due to the 2 cooling fans now directed onto the card.

Thanks Spleen for your help mate, TRULY appreciated.
