ACPI is a Microsoft OS related system spepcification. Try to use APM which is based in the Bios and will vary with the motherboard. On a Standard (non ACPI) PC a tab "APM" should appear in Power Options to allow activation. Then choose options in Bios.

OP
thanks for the reply. How do I enable APM?
I have an Abit KT7R mobo. I've gone into power options in the control panel, but can't see anyway to enable it
