Adding new hard drive

This is a discussion about Adding new hard drive in the Windows Hardware category; I just added a 100gb 7200rpm mdt w/ 8mb cache to my system as a storage drive. I am running win server 2003. The bios detects my drive and windows added it as new hardware. But I cannot get to the drive through my computer.

But I cannot get to the drive through my computer. My guess is that i probably have to format it or something of that nature. But im not really sure. Help needed. Thanks

Hi,
Yes you will need to format it. I am running windows 2000 so I am not sure if the procedure is the same however if you bring up the run box (START > RUN) and type in compmgmt.msc and clic run and that should bring up your computer management console and you will see an option down on the right hand side for disk management. clic on there and it should detect all your drives. choose the one that is not formatted and right clic on it. the option to format will be there.
