after upgrade, delete what?

This is a discussion about after upgrade, delete what? in the Customization Tweaking category; after a successful upgrade to XP pro from NT 4. 0, what unnecessary stuff from NT can I get rid of? the entire Winnt40 directory? the i386 directory? win32 apps? side question: where do you find various programs like explorer and notepad to create desktop icons for launching?.

Not too sure on the first question but the second.
 
I find them in the All Programs Menu and then create a shortcut then drag and drop the shortcut to the quick launch bar. I am sure there is an easier/better way but that works for me

I usually search for the exe by name (using either the find or search functions, depending on OS), and then either make a shortcut to it from there, or copy an existing shortcut to the desktop. This allows use of the program from the desktop or quicklaunch bar.
