So, what alternatives are there for the SB Live!?
I'm currently replacing my brothers old PII 300 with a Celeron 733 based system.

So, if I want a PCI soundcard that offers good Win2k/9x support but also offers me the likes of EAX, is the SB Live! the only option?

Hey Bladerunner remember how k6III in hardware central would often yell out one sound card, and that one card would be the santa cruz by turtle beach
SBLive! works just fine if you have the 5.12 (or whatever they're called) drivers.
the SantaCruz is a nice card because it even has beta drivers for XP out now too. This is a great effort on that company to show that they are willing to support any OS as long as its feature complete, and its great to have working EAX in XP.
Supposedly the Hercules Game Theatre XP or whatever is a nice card, has a box you hook up where your connections are made, it's pretty cool from the reviews I've ever. Even has Dolby Digital 5.1 support I believe.

Oh don't get me wrong, I love the SB Live!, I have one in my system and don't have a single problem with it, but as I was going to have to buy a card for my brother's PC I thought I'd see what else is out there 
Having some difficulty sourcing a SantaCruz.
All the UK companies that list 'Turtle Beach' as a manufacturer only list the Montego cards not anything called SantaCruz :-(

Just like in Directsound benchmarks the Live completely freezes the game for several seconds every now and then but is faster when it’s working. Until Creative fixes these errors (maybe in their last driver set) it’s no question that the Santa Cruz/SonicFury offers a better experience in Windows 2000.
