Anotehr APM/Shutdown problem (please don't kill me!)
This is a discussion about Anotehr APM/Shutdown problem (please don't kill me!) in the Windows Hardware category; OK, here's the story: I had approx 8 devices all sharing IRQ 9, so I switched from ACPI to standard PC (To hopefuly solve my notorious Quake 3A probs with my Vid card). This fixed the IRQ sharing probs, but now my computer won't shutdown.

This fixed the IRQ sharing probs, but now my computer won't shutdown. I have enabled APM, which of course stopped the "it is now safe to turn off your computer" BS, but now, my machine just reboots itself when then shutdown is complete. I've searched the forum for ages and all probs related to this seem to be with ABIT Mboards, but I have an ASUS P2b-F BIOS 1012.001.
BTW, it is not giving me a BSOD when it shuts down, nothing but black screen, then it reboots.
If I have overlooked somethign please help me out here.
Thanks

PLEASE help me out here guys, I've been messing with this all day, and haven't come up with the goods. Someone out there must have a solution??
Your system is probably set to reboot automatically after a BSOD. You can uncheck that in (rightclick) Mycomputer, advanced, startup and recovery.
I had this problem too after i enabled ACPI and APM, i got an IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR _EQUAL or something like that in a nice B(lue)SOD...
Right now i have all disabled and my power button is set as instant off in BIOS, therefore i still need to power off manually after shutdown.

Thanks Palos, but I'm not getting a BSOD on shutdown, it just doesn't seem to kill the power. I mentioned this in my initial post. Please, any other ideas are welcome
get tweak UI for W2K and set the power option to power off instead of reboot
crazee: maybe win2k needs to me reinstalled to embed the new mode (standard PC) instead of ACPI. (i know it's crazy but you neverknow ). also you can experiment with ACPI settings in ASUS BIOS (my ABit BH6 works with ACPI disabled and nevermind APM is checked or not)

OP
Thanks for the reply guys, I appreciate it.
APV_SAV, where in tweakUI is there any power options?? I can't see any.
5t3ph3n I have just reinstalled 2k with the Standard PC option instead of ACPI.
Thanks guys
