ATI TV Wonder Pro help! (Question about the Cable line)

Hey everyone, I have a slight problem with my new ATI TV Wonder Pro card. I only have one cable outlet near my computer, and I use it for my cable internet. I went out and bought a two way splitter, which seemed to work fine. (I tested the internet, and it worked). I then installed the hardware and software, and the TV worked fine as well. But when I went and clicked on the internet, it wouldn't connect. I checked my network connections, and the TV card was in network connections. I also checked the IP addresses, and both had faulty I.P. addresses (192.something) I tried to repair both, but it wouldn't let me. I was wondering what I can do now? I have another cable outlet across the room, would it make a difference if I took off the splitter and ran a line across the room? Or is there something else I can do? Any thoughts/help would be appreciated, thanks!

P.S. I read that this card has trouble with Hyperthreading, how do you tell if your computer has that?
