I have a diamond monstersound mx300 (Aureal Vortex2) i have been running win2k pro for quite somtime now, and have gotten used to my soundcard problems.. But it has to be something i can fix, for example, if im listening to an mp3 and windows makes a "ding" sound, it makes the song skip and most of the time have to restart, and i play games that when the cdrom is spinning, it starts to play the music that is supposed to, then stops! i took the cd out to test and it played the music fine! (but i need the cd) almost the same problem with starcraft, sometimes after im playing for a while and i skip from track to track, i start hearing a little hi pitched noise.. then i lose all sound/music! i exit the game and the sound is all messed up, i try to play an mp3 it will play abut 1/2 second of it, press play again another 1/2 second and stop, then i tried to load up another game and it said directx is still in use or seomthing, i have DirectX8, win2k SP1, Aureal Vortex2 WDM drivers... what could possibly be the problem! please help!

P.S. I dident have these problems when running windows 95/98....

I also have this problem.
Playing any sound source and putting load on my cpu the sound stops and the only solution is to reboot my machine.
This was not a problem when running on an Intel platform ,but I recently switched to AMD and this became a problem
Please post the solution on this messageboard if you find any answers.

Make sure your MP3 player output using DirectSound which allowed for more than one sound chanel instead of a wave-device, in the system performance properties also set for background services.
