Auto admin logon settings for recovery console
At present I have 3 accounts with administrator privilliges setup on my XP Pro machine. Two are manually created accounts and one is the original 'Administrator' account that is created by windows setup (but I have since renamed it).

When I load the recovery console and it prompts for the administator password; which account is it refering to? I have tried all three passwords for my local administrator accounts and non will work. The only way I can gain access to the recovery console atm is by enabling the auto logon feature for it via the local security policy snap-in.
Could someone help me out with this as I have a majority security issue with the setup as it stands at the moment.

Try renaming the built-in admin account back to 'administrator' and using that password.
