Automatic restart program for XP?
This is a discussion about Automatic restart program for XP? in the Customization Tweaking category; I would like to find a program that will automatically RESTART Windows XP Pro when the PC has been idle for a period (like 15 mintues or so) of time. Let me know! Many thanks :-).

Here is a thought that might work. Get a DOS program that can reboot the machine in a DOS box. Next create a .bat file that runs this DOS reboot program with any command line options you need. Last change the .bat file extention to a .scr extention and set your screen saver to this new ".scr" file to run after 15 min of inactivity.
Remember that a screen saver is just an executible file.

An ingenious use of a .scr file if there ever was one
XP comes with a command line based utility called SHUTDOWN.EXE which you should be able to use to restart the machine.
BTW - Why would you want to restart the machine after 15 minutes of inactivity?

Yep, I work for University of Missouri and we are having buget problems so I am having to find all kinds of free ways to do things. ;(
