Backup HDD
Hello, I am curious what is involved in installing a second HDD to backup my mp3 files on? I wouldn't be running an OS on it or needing to access any files or anything. I would just like to have a second HDD with my 18+GB of mp3s on it, in case of a burnout.
Hello,

I would just like to have a second HDD with my 18+GB of mp3s on it, in case of a burnout. i have a fair amount of computer knowledge but i haven't dealt much with RAID or anything to do with hard drives except installing a new one in a built PC. how would i go about doing so and during the process are any of my files at risk of being lost or damaged?
System specs:
Celeron 2.8gHz
1024MB Crucial RAM(PC2700)
WD 160GB 7200 RPM HDD
Intel 845GV Mobo

hey,
what kind of hard drive is it? (IDE, SATA ...) i know for IDE u just plug it in and its good to go. you can use windows xp disk manager to format it, or any other software like partition magic. theres very little risk of losing your data unless you choose to format the wrong drive. just make sure your computer has an available power connecter and ide cable. also put the second hard drive into slave mode (use the jumpers)
good luck
