If you run Scandisk it will map the bad sector and not use it in windows

I agree. If you're getting a bunch of bad sectors, plan on a new hard disk ASAP. It only gets worse.

Low-Level Formats tend to get those back (doubtlessly remapping those sectors that went "belly-up" to a 'grown-defects list' & remapping spare ones into their place). Sometimes this works for good & fixing them up for good... other times, it only holds them for a while longer before more go bad!
