Watch your chips with those ORBs Brian, a lot of ppl say that its really easy to crush the die. I haven't had any such problems myself though.. I really love that "twist & lock" mechanism on them.

I haven't had a problem with em. I've heard the Durons and Athlons have a bigger risk of crushing the die. The Durons especially are problematic with getting the die crushed. If I'm worried, I saw a little tip about making pads for the P3/Celermine out of electrical tape. The biggest issue with the orbs is having enough space around the socket for them. I may file down the orbs on the side a little as they're really close to a capacitor or two.

Pimpin, try setting the drives to auto, if you haven't done so already.
Also, let it sit for a while and do something else, before you start going nuts. Shut it down and leave it be sometimes fixes things, I have no clue why though.

They fit fine on the VP6. Dang they look good. heh. I've actually been thinking I'll replace them with something "supposidly" better.. I'm getting around 46C atm at full load, and when it was really hot that weekend, 49C.

I am about to fit another case fan though, that might bring it down a bit.

I'm still waiting for the 2nd damn cpu to come in!
The store I'm getting from finally got it in, but the stupid morons where they shipped it from totally screwed up the entire shipment of parts they sent, and my cpu was a slot 1. Obviously, a s370 duallie board will not be using that one, so it got sent back.
That company hasn't done too good of a job at keeping us informed, so the store ordered another cpu from a different company.
If I'd know the bullsh!t I'd be going through, I might have just bought two new cpu's, but I thought that companies would let their employees know the difference between a socket cpu and a slot.

--end rant--

Heh. I've traded in about $110 worth of hardware in exchange for the cpu, otherwise I'd get it from that site.
But, hey, thanx for the tip anyway. One of the guys at the store used to be a classmate back in elementry, and tries to cut me deals sometimes, plus they were the only ones in town that you can trade in hardware toward new stuff.

Well guys, I'm back to using my old P3 667, the guy next door finally bought my P3 1GHz for $250 USD. I built my Dad a computer from parts lying around and I'm getting ready to build my girlfriend a computer so I removed 2 sticks of 256 from my computer (gotta buy a stick of 512 anyway), so now i got 256MB RAM. Bit of a downgrade huh?

I wasn't aware Durons supported SMP, and afaik, Celerons don't either now so you might have a lil problem there.

The Duron's are eventually supposed to be SMP capable, but not right now. And Cynan's right, the current Celeron's aren't SMP enabled. As I recall, SMP Celeron's only go up to 466MHz without overclocking.
If you want a dual board now, it's either got to be the Celeron I or Pentium III, and I personally don't see a duallie AMD system being viable at this point in time.
I got me an MSI 694D Pro-AR version 1.0 and it's a good board.
Tyan also makes some good boards, but they are not for overclocking at all. You can overclock 'em, but they suck for doing so, just keep that in mind, but they are good boards.
Personally, any component that costs more than a cheap store-bought pc is way outta my price range.
As far as I know, AMD does not make consumer motherboards, and any that they do make would just be a reference design. The duallie AMD reference design is the Tyan Thunder K7, but it's the only one out and costs around $600--depending on where you get it and which features come with it.
MSI supposed to come out with one real soon, but there's some incompatibility with the AMD 762 northbridge and the Via 686B southbridge which they were planning to use. Abit and Asus should have there duallie boards out by the end of the year...
I'm hoping for duallie Durons, but I'm not gonna hold my breath.

irrelevant side note: looks like I got the second most number of posts here on the board, with Eddie being 100+ posts ahead o me.
We now return you to your regularly schedualed musings.

All AMD 6x86 chips are SMP compatible. Though, not necessarily supported

even the K6-2s were SMP capable, they just didn't have a chipset/board to use it.

When the Tyan came out, they ran dual Durons on it with no problem
They ran dual Athlons on it with no problem
They ran dual Athlon MPs on it with-you guessed it. No problem

And how's this for my rig this fall(or winter if I hold out)?

Black (anodized aluminum) Coldforge AA-15 w/ extra hdd rack(giving me 19 bays total)

DUAL Palomino(Athlon MP) 1.4 or 1.5 ghz(depending on what's released)
DUAL Swiftech MC462a heatsinks
DUAL Delta EHE 80mm 80cfm 53dB fans (on a rheostat or 7/12 switch)
DUAL Enermax 465 Power supplies(modded for continuous Panaflo 80H & 92H operation)
DUAL Adaptec SCSI controllers(2940U2W, and 39160{which gives me DUAL channels}) giving me a total of 45 devices)
DUAL IBM Ultrastar LZX 18gb 10k Ultra 160
DUAL port Compaq NC3122 10/100 Ethernet card
DUAL Plextor 12x10x32s(or 24x if they come out with it in time)
DUAL(or Four, depending on motherboard) Corsair/Crucial PC2400(or PC2600 if released) 256 mb DIMMS.
DUAL Panaflo 120mm H series for exhaust
DUAL Panaflo 120mm M series for hdd cooling(intake)
DUAL Panaflo 120mm M series for system cooling(intake)

and for the stuff that isn't dual
-undetermined- 760mp(x) motherboard(MSI, maybe?)
Hercules Game Theater XP
IBM 4.5gb 7.2k U2W
-undetermined- GeForce 3 or better
Removeable(hotswap) 20GB IBM 60GXP or 9GB IBM U2W
Microsoft Natural Keyboard Pro
Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer w/ Ratpad

things that will not grace my computer:
floppy
modem
AOL
legacy devices(no parallel-unless for LCD-, no ISA, no serial)

all this in addition to my current rig(check sig), which will remain unchanged unless I decide to grab an Athlon
