As far as Ultimate BB is concerned, obviously I know it's great ... he he ... we are on NTCompatible are'nt we?
I've been told that it is cgi/unix only based and that it would not fit a mixed Lotus Notes/M$ IIS/SQL based environment.
I wonder if my provider is not trying to screw me, trying to sell a proprietary solution
What do you think about that??

CM one thing sure you not look for BBS software, Mustang Software unveiled the first BBS software back in 1986, The ture mean Bulletin Board System (BBS)

win it should been called Bulletin Board Discussion Forums {BBDF)

I'm almost finished with my BBS software. It runs in ASP with Microsoft SQL on the backend. It can be modified to use Oracle, MySQL, or Access. It is fast and easy to install.

JoshKerr's BBS software seems to look like what I'm looking for.
I would not discuss semantics, what is the difference between a BBS or a forum.
What I want is something similar to UBB able to run in an IIS/SQL + Notes environment.
May sound crazy, he he.
Anyway, I've to find a solution.

Did you check out Snitz? I think http://forum.snitz.com/forum/ is very close to UBB
 
I found alot interesting code hacks in the forums there. Even a import tool UBB -> Snitz exits

It sounds like you're sorted now, but if you've got Cold Fusion, there is a free download for a Forum application.
 
I don't have the URL to hand, but you should be able to find it on the CF site. It's not overly featured, but should be customisable.
 
It does however rely on you having a Cold Fusion server.
