Well....
BG1 and 2
BG1 is quite a bit uglier and slower than BG2. So after playing games on the BG2 engine you'll have to have a STRONG force of will to player BG1 over the newer RPG's. I'd recommend playing BG1 only if your not overflowing with games or if you have a crappy laptop. Anyways both games are 2 of the best RPG's of all time.
Neverwinter Nights- Excellent graphics, the singleplayer is not as refined nor as good as BG1 or 2 but it's still worth playing. The MODS are what make this game good, anyways the singleplayer is worth playing.
Morrowind - An RPG in First/3rd person, HUGE game world like all Bethesda RPG's. Takes alot of time to get into and ALOT of Mod's to make this game worthwhile.
Dungeon Seige - Diablo + BG. Basically RPG's for Dummies which really isn't a bad thing but it does get boring and repetitive. If Diablo was too little for ya and BG/NWN is too much then Dungeon Siege is just right.
Icewind Dale 2 - Just like ID1...except better! Still not up to the BG1/2/NWN standard but that's not what this game tries to be.
Arx Fatalis - Haven't played.
Divine Divinity - Haven't played but have heard good things.

Have you tried Dark Age of Camelot online yet? And if you are really hard core into role play, there are special servers dedicated to that as well. I tried BG1, and NWN, and got bored with them. One of the things that made D&D so great, was TEAMWORK with live human players. Sure NWN has an online part as well - but to me it was just hack & slash and grab a power-up. Now on DAoC, there are places where it would take numerous high level groups to take down a mob, and if it tickles your fancy - the RvR battles (against other Realm players) is a thing to see! But then too, there are quests and journeys to be had as well.
Quote:can you play online with dark age of camelot without paying? on certain servers?
No, AFAIK you can't. I think you get 1 month's "free" trial (you still have to pay for the CD and serial number) when you first sign up to the game unless it's changed since I played it or is different on the US servers. I stopped playing it because: a) it was taking up way too much time, I used to be on cable internet, but am now on a modem that gets disconnected every 2 hours = not so fun. But it is a good fun game if you like that kinda thing.

if you're looking for free stuff, I'd say NWN if you're at all into DnD. If you just wanna have some fun go for Diablo 2.
Personally I'd say if you haven't played either, play NWN and take a look at the toolset. Make yourself a module and put all custom stuff in there, equip it and off you go into the world.
