Mine is currently running at about 41C/105F, it's an XP 2600+ running at 166MHz FSB. Here's how I added extra cooling to it, I looked at the heatsink, it's the kind with the copper slug in the center, good for better cooling then just aluminum only. I noticed that that fan doesn't turn faster then about 2400~2600 RPM. I have a bunch of extra Xeon fans however, these babbies run at about 6000 or so and move lots of air.
 
Since both fans are 60MM and the original fan mounting screws are long enough, I decided to unscrew all 4 of them and then place the faster Xeon fan on top of the existing Athlon stock fan.
 
I tried it both with just the Xeon fan and with both fans, it does make a difference to have them both on there

i will try the two fan thing, any other suggestions.

Did you apply any thermal paste?
 
You have to make sure that there is good contact between the cpu and the cooler.

yeah i did add some paste but i wasn't too sure how much to add or where to add it !! Any suggesstions

You only need apply a small amount to the bottom side of the heatsink, enough to make a thin layer of compound as it's designed to help fill in the gaps and provide for better heat transferring between the CPU and the sink
 
If you have any stock fans, they usually come with a pad, best to carefully remove this and clean up any excess residue before applying the thermal paste.

Well I guess it depends on your definition of both. On my Asus motherboard, the Asus Probe software monitors both the CPU temp and the MB temp. There is no mention of Surface Temp anywhere, unless this is what you mean for the MB temp
 
The CPU temp is the CPU Core temp, this is important if your core temp rises too high you will have random lockups and freezes. The newer motherboards will even shutdown for you, you can adjust the CPU Warning temp threshold in the System BIOS so the speaker will beep at you, but don't set it too low as in normal operation it could possibly hit this temp and start beeping at you.

The coolmaster is the problem, they're junk. They carry them at Radioshack so what did you expect?
 
If you don't care about noise pick up one of either of these http://2cooltek.safeshopper.com/33/cat33.htm?524, personally I have the fop 38 (they didn't have the sak 38 when I bought mine). Loud as hell but my cpu is nice and cool. With that and decent air flow through the case (at least 2 case fans) heat should no longer be an issue for ya.

Really you might want to consider a Silver Mountian 2 with a ThermalTake Smart Fan 2 as the fan. Do use either AS3 or Nanotherm.

You have a cooling fan that should eaisly handle the cooling on this processor, you have applied the thermal compound, the other factor that no one has mentioned is the stability of the voltages, they will generate excessive heat if outside the prescribed limits.
