I have small network with few friend in my area. In this network I have two machines:

1. one 98SE (my wife),
2. another XP (mine).

I would like to share My Documents on both our machines and one printer (connected to machine with XP).

There is not problem with sharing folder on machine 98SE - there is two options: sharing by users or sharing by resourses. The second one is better for me: I am sharing Documents folder for all but with password (only wife knows password).

I have no problems with sharing folders on XP machine for everyone, but the problem is: I have private documents in folders and I wouldn't share them with everyone but only with my wife who has second (98SE) machine.

The same problem is with printer - my wife can print on it from second machine, but everyone from my area network can print on my printer too!!!

We have no domain. We have only Workgroup and it was excellent until I installed XP. But XP is more stable than ME or 9x. I must verify my needs and I think I must come back to ME.

Or maybe one of you help me, please!

P.S.
Please help me with different problem (on this list) too.

Thank you.

Go to Control Panel -> Folder Options -> View and untick "Use simple file sharing".

Now you can set permissions on each folder with much more configurability. Go to the properties of one of your shared folders/printers and you can now specify the access rights that each individual user has using the "sharing" tab. If you create users on the XP machine with the same user/pass as on the machines that you want to have higher access you can then give those particular users access to things that others cannot. Also, the "security" tab will have appeared which has a lot of useful features in it.
