BIOS problem?

OK, I have a sony vaio that is about a year old, P4 2. 8, 800mhx fsb, DDR333 support etc etc. When I boot up and read the POST stuff, it says that 1GB of PC2100(266mhz) is detected. So, if the memory is all pc2700 why isnt the BIOS recognizing it as such? It carrys over into windows as well, programs like belarc ad ...
