Black screen, hard drive not responding

This is a discussion about Black screen, hard drive not responding in the Windows Hardware category; I hope someone can help me! I have an HP Pavilion ze4300 laptop. A week ago I turned it off one night, and when I turned it on the next day, nothing on the screen. The lights come on, the fan works, battery is ok, everything, but the blue hard-drive light in front does not flash.

I hope someone can help me! I have an HP Pavilion ze4300 laptop. A week ago I turned it off one night, and when I turned it on the next day, nothing on the screen. The lights come on, the fan works, battery is ok, everything, but the blue hard-drive light in front does not flash. I've had an IT guy at work look at it with no help. It has comeon a few times, but as soon as it's turned off, black screen again most of the time when I try to turn it on. Any ideas or advice or suggestions?!!!!

Is the battery in? Is the laptop plugged into the wall? Can you connect an external monitor to your laptop, and output the screen to that monitor (might be FN + F3). Is there a small hole on the bottom of the laptop, if so, that may (or may not) be the bios reset. I've seen this on some laptops.

The big question is......is the laptop under warranty?

OP
Yep, everything's connected as it should be. But the warranty is expired, and HP Support is no help. Thanks!

Have you tried the brightness controls? Anyway, this sounds very similar to a laptop that I recently worked on. One day it worked, the next it didn't. I was able to connect the laptop to an external monitor, then I switched the video display to the monitor, and found that there was an error in bios. Reset the bios, computer was able to boot. BUT, no display on the laptop itself, just the external monitor. Also, no warranty to the laptop. Well, in this case, I sent it to a friend who works on the hardware aspects of laptops. He took it apart, and discovered that the inverter was charred, also the connection to the mainboard was charred at the connection. Result? Use the external monitor for now on, buy a replacement mainboard and inverter, or just buy a new laptop.

Now, this was just this laptop's problem. Yours maybe easier.

Check your laptop manual to see if there is anyway to reset the bios and see what happens......
