Well if it helps, the file wdmaud.sys is the "MMSYSTEM Wave/Midi API mapper". So it's related to your sound card probably.

Lovely. I've been getting that error message too. Happens when running a media file or opening IE. Does it randomly too. If anybody has a solution...
 
It happens just often enough to be annoying.
 
The address isn't the same as mine, and some of the codes beside the KMODE one are different, but the Date Stamp and wdmaud.sys are there.

Are you using an onboard soundcard?

Not me. No onboard sound on either system. Never done this before either. I know a way that will most likely fix it, but I'm not that desperate at the moment. More annoyed than anything else.

So you reckon it's the driver, could it be defective harware? The computer is is almost 4 years old.
 
What is better, windows default driver or the drivers supplied by the soundboard manufacturer?

I too get that error message when playing games. My soundcard is a game theater XP, ther are new drivers coming out soon for it maybe it will help. In response to the guy who claimed he had a yamaha xg something rather, my gtxp came with a certificate stating something about yamaha xg, i don't know what it really means but my card is made by hercules, the fortissimo II is made by herc, and the yamaha xg is also related to the gtxp and possibly the fortissimo (I don't know much about it). So I believe that this crap is all related to poor drivers, hercules keeps very quiet about their driver development, hopefully you guys will get new drivers like I am soon too with the release of winxp.

I'll see if the problems persist, as I've got the Audigy now.
The Guillemot Fortissimo I have is different than the Herc Fortissimo II. The DSP is Yamaha, no the Cirrus Logic one. Haven't had problems before. I think using Yamaha's drivers directly off their site may have had something to do with it. Probably should've left the default Win2k drivers there. The drivers available are so old anyway, it's not worth it.

I have really been getting that bluescreen quit often now

I Was wondering, what Hardware or Drivers can i disable in 'Device Manager' to disable "Wave/Midi API mapper", do you reckon this would stop the blue screens?

Would it prevent any sound in Windows, or just some formats?

Wave sound is the deafult windows audio driverso disabling it would most likely kill all sound, i'm not sure if you can use directsound as an alternative tho
