boot from software raid
This is a discussion about boot from software raid in the Windows Software category; I want to run 4 80gig WD sata's on a striped raid. In disk manager i have managed to create this raid but only by using windows on a IDE hdd (5 hdds all up). Problem is once i have created this raid i can't install windows on it so i can use this raid and remove the slow IDE.

My motherboard supports a hardware raid for 2 satas on one chipset and 2 stand alone satas. I wanna know if its possible to some how make a 4 sata raid with windows on it. My motherboard is a gigabyte GA-8KNXP. all other components on my computer are more then enough. Basically whats disk manager good for if u can't join hdds if 1 has an OS on it??

You must have hardware RAID to boot from it, a software raid is no good as the software to manage the raid has to be loaded to boot from it and the software cannot be loaded until its booted - Catch 22.
Software raid can be setup when they are Dynamic disks (not Basic) and this is setup is Disk Management.
