Hello, a friend of mine has just recently bought the following:
Abit BP6 motherboard
2 x 533Mhz Celeron
128 Mb ram pc100
1 x Ultra 66, 20GB IBM Harddrive.
He has a problem: The cpu-usage meter is always on 50%, even after a clean installation, without any special drivers, no programs, games or utilities. Sometimes it gets free, for example, he installed Q3A, and ran a timedemo there.
At first it was like glue, clearly something was eating up alot of cpu-power, then all of a sudden it cleared and ran fin for a while, but not for long. Anyone know anything about this? Anyone who has had the same problem? Or knows how to resolve it?
plz help if you can.
btw: He is using the QQ-bios not the final since with that his computer wount even boot, but the "evaluation-release" is working so far, this problem has "all of a sudden" appeared, it was working flawless before...

The QQ final bios has know problems and had been withdrawn from abit web page, use the QQ-01 beta which is still available at abit ftp site and wait for new bios. btw qq-01 is by far working flawlessly with W2K and most stable of all bios
Sure if you want to discuss known facts thats okay, but anyone who has any ideas regarding the acctuall problem?
the known problem is within the bios, if you want more info to resolve it, try contacting Abit, I think they will be delighted that you can solve something that their tech can't do. good try for applying a job for Abit, IMHO.
Good luck on your quest

oh fogot 1 thing, try reflashing the bios with bios cacheable disabled and after the flash, turn off power (pull cord from power source) and hardware clear cmos. (read manual)
Thanx for your help, will forward it to my friend.
