can ping but cant see

This is a discussion about can ping but cant see in the Everything New Technology category; i can ping from the computer but i cannot see other computers on the network or even the network itself. It is just a workgroup and ihave tried recreating the network settings on the puter any suggestions.

Can you ping by using Netbios name? Or just IP address?

sounds like you have a master browser conflict. I get the same problem on my local network whenever I reboot my server. You can check which machine is the master browser by typing nbtstat -n in a command prompt. The way to correct this is to stop and start the computer browser service on your server.
