Cant delete or rename local folders once I've changed anythi
Ok here is the situation, maybe you can be of some help. I go to add, delete, or modify files in a folder right. Then say I want to rename the folder, delete it, or what ever. It says I can't do it because of sharing violation.

I have to restart my system to rename it... But I can rename it before I mess with stuff in the folder. Anyone having this problem?

hmm well i see... yet that is not much of an solution. How can I rid of this permantly? Does it have anything to do with my paging file?
There must be some program running that has the directory open.... for example, I find that if i download something with getright and then try to delete that directory, it won't let me. In this case, getright seems to have the directory open even after it has finished the download. If I close Getright, it will then be free to be deleted.
So the trick is to find out which program is hanging out in the directory. Virus scanners come to mind to me, or maybe even the indexing service, if you have that turned on...

no, cause i can rename or delete before i start altering stuff...

no, cause i can rename or delete before i start altering stuff... Right - Before you alter anything, programs like virus scanners or the indexing service have no need to look at that directory. Once you start changing files in that directory, then those programs have to examine the files....
I'm not saying that this IS the reason why you are having that problem, but I think it's a good possibility, and worth looking into...

no i already checked those possibilities earlier... i have no virus scanners running, and indexing service is disabled.
i have even let it sit days and it still wont let me do it. It does not make sense to me.

I also have that problem, It's a real B!tch.
Unfortunatley the only thing that i found that works is a freakin restart
I'm not sure but maybe a log-off - log-on may also work, either way it is a pain in the butt!
It couldn't be a bug, could it it sure seems like one.
I have yet to try ending the 'explorer.exe' task to fix it, which DosFreak suggested.
Anyway i'm relieved i'm not the only one with this nuisance problem.
I run Win2K SP2, IE5.5 SP2, Indexing Service 'OFF', Mcafee Viruscanner 5.21 'ON'
Cheers,

Yes it certainly is a Pain in the ***.
I too tried all these things before they even suggested them. I don't know what is wrong. But I will figure it out soon.
Win2k, SP2, IE6, Anti-Virus Off
