Hi, Hope this is posted in the right place.
I have posted this issue on a couple different boards but so far have not found anyone with a solution. I only found a couple other people having the same problem. Here goes:
I cannot load some pages and it seems to be mostly microsoft pages. It started with my sons' computer. www.MSN.com web page will load but the button in the upper right hand corner of the page for "Sign In" to hotmail or passport is missing and only a red x is present with some text dicribing the link. He uses MSN messenger and hotmail. If you click on the link to sign it it just hangs and won't open the page We get the standard error page that starts with:
The page cannot be displayed
The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings.
but its not.
I have done everything to fix this problem including spybot, ad-aware, virus scan, highjackthis, turn off all firewalls, clean cookies, delete files, load and try FireFox, then did a full reload of XP SP2!!!! Still doen't work.
Other pages that won't open are http://www.ebay.com, http://support.microsoft.com/, http://messenger.msn.com/
I have a home network and his computer is a client. The gateway can open all of these websites with no problems.
Since my son couldn't get into messenger he moved over to my computer which is another client when I am at work . I was also able to open those pages with no issues but after he started using mine for a few days it won't load the pages either!! Gateway still has no problems.
The gateway is running PC-cillin Internet Security which has real time scanning and a firewall. It is not running the XP firewall.
I think that these computers are adding the sites to an untrusted site list somewhere and denying access to them but I can't find where. I have tried disabling the firewalls. What else can block access?
This problem is relativly new and all machines have XP pro SP2 full installs with a slipstreamed install disk, not updates. My PC was up and running with the full install for atleast 2 months with no problems??
Please help
