Carmageddon2
This is a discussion about Carmageddon2 in the Windows Games category; Hi All, I have Win2k and am trying to get Carmageddon 2 to run on it and am getting Sorry, not supported on NT. In the list, I saw that you need a 3dfx card (which I don't have). Do any of you know of another way to make this work? Thanks!.

Nope, i dont think it will ever work Which is a shame because probably the only thing stopping it working in 2000 is that NT check message
OP
Bohohohoohohohohooooooooooooo
Is there perhaps some program that can trick Win2k into thinking it's 98 or 95? Or anything like that?
I loved Carmageddon 2 and it is just making me real sad that I can't play it now I've upgraded. I don't really want to install a dual boot because just one game isn't playing.
Life is hard...

Well I for one never managed to get Carm 2 working under Win2k/XP.
Even if you use the compatability toolkits it still gives the "This application is not supported under WinNT"
Don't for a second consider a dual-boot for one game.
It's time to move on, don't look back, take a trip to EB and purchase Carmageddon TDR2000, that works flawlessly under Win2k & WinXP.

*sigh* Is this the end for me and my Carmagedon2 addiction? *sigh*
Maybe you're right about going for TDR2000. Do you consider it better than C2?

Oh I love TDR 2000.
I've played both single player and also over a LAN and it's great.
It also has support for Internet playing too.
The graphics are crisper, it's certainly a nicer engine than the Carmageddon 2 one.
Don't get me wrong I loved Carm2, but there was no way I was going to dual-boot my system just for one game.
Some of the missions in TDR2000 can be annoying, but the levels are great & varied.

but the 4 min time limit sucks ;( seems there is no way of tricking carma 2 into running on 2k/xp
The 4 minute missions are difficult yes, but they give you the opportunity to show your real skill.
I must admit I haven't played TDR2000 for a while, but I have saved games far in and the missions although difficult are far from impossible.

Yeah i dont mind 4 minute missions that much, but the problem is that in Carma1 and 2 i used to just like getting loads of time and going round smashing thing up for ages but thats really hard to do in TDR2000, especially with the very small amount of time you get for running some1 over
Man, I've heard this story so many times, and I don't know how or why I got it working just fine under Win2K. I just threw in the CD, and it installed without a hitch. No compatibility mode or anything. I'm glad I heard the stories though, because I've kept it installed to a second drive through three or four installs of Win2K. I just run the old EXE and it plays fine.
I'm a lucky fool though, because I didn't like TDR2K. If I wasn't on dial-up, I'd ZIP the directory so you guys could try it.

I got a little busy and forgot to thank all of you for the replies. Thanks a bundle! TDR2000 here I come!
Actually seeing your post again prompted me to give it another go. Got it working in software mode now but it crashes when i load it in hardware more It does seem to be the copy protection that is stopping it, as if you apply a crack you dont get that 'not supported in nt' message.
OP
Kewl. Could you give me some pointers on how you got it working in software mode?
Yeah sure.
Basically install it, patch it up to v2.0 using whatever patch is appropriate for your region UK/US etc.
Then download :
http://www.megagames.com/cgi/download/do...arch=CARMA2.ZIP
Unzip it into the carma directory and then just run carma2 normally and select software mode from the renderer options.
Be warned, it doesnt look pretty
