Hi,
After burning a DVD recently, my XP machine slowed to a crawl...on reboot, got a blue screen and had to power down. Rebooting ran CHKDSK and had numerous error windows popping up. Ok'ed out of all and rebooted into last known good....CHKDSK ran again but reported no errors. Tested hdds with Maxtor utility...all passed. CHKDSK runs every bootup.
Tried the classic fix: Hkey_localmachine\system.....etc. autocheck autochk* was found intact. I'm stumped. Should I do a repair of XP? Any other ideas? Thanks,
Dub

try booting to the windows recovery console and then run from the prompt chkdsk /F to run the check from non windows environment. This might unblock it.
