I don't see why not, however, I do not personally use any FAX software via ethernet.

Yes, it will work with a cable modem. The modem wether it be a dial up or dsl or cable modem is only giving you access to the internet.
Winfax does the rest.

I always thought that fax only worked with dial up modems as they have to dial the other fax machines number.

I thought the software my wife uses was Winfax when I gave out that info. I found out today that she actually uses EFAX software with her cable modem.
