Hey all, I've been having a problem with my notebook. I was recently playing a game on it when it froze all of a sudden. I couldn't move the mouse or anything so I had to reboot. It worked fine at first but once it booted to windows again it froze once more. I tried turning it on again afterwards and nothing happened, it was just a black screen. I thought it was overheating so I left it to cool down for a couple of hours. It booted and went to the windows logo but froze again. I have tried turning it off and on many times to no avail. When I turn it on the power light and hard drive lights turn green but after a few seconds the hd light is off. Is this a hd problem or something else? It is an HP Compaq nc6220 laptop. Thanks in advance.

Are you able to boot into Safe Mode? When your machine locks up the way you are describing, it is usally an IRQ issue. Have you recently installed any new hardware? Also, do you hear any strange clicking noises before or when it freezes?
