Compaq Presario 2266 compatible with Win XP Pro?
This is a discussion about Compaq Presario 2266 compatible with Win XP Pro? in the Windows Hardware category; I was wondering if there was a fighting chance that an old Compaq Presario 2266 with a Cyrix 6x86MX processor can run Windows XP Pro SP2. I know the min. requirements according to Microsoft is a 233 Mhz processor but i don't know if a 6x86mx is slower or faster.

Its an office computer and we had to upgrade all our WIN98 computers to XP to run a new version of an app which doesn't support Win98 or ME.

Simple answer, NO.
The CPU is too slow really run Win 2K Properly with any speed.
However, this should run Win NT 4, Win 95 and possibly do ok with Win 98, but really this system is just too underpowered to run this kind of OS.
You should also be able to run many distro's of *nix as well

Plus with the high cost of older ram you could nearly buy a stripped down computer that will run Win XP no problem.
