Counter-Strike: Normal cpu priority only?

I've been tryinng to figure out a problem with CS for over a week now & think I may have stumbled onto something. See, I've been playing CS since beta 5 on my NT4 machine, without ever having any problems of any kind.

Hi. I've been tryinng to figure out a problem with CS for over a week now & think I may have stumbled onto something.
 
See, I've been playing CS since beta 5 on my NT4 machine, without ever having any problems of any kind. It always ran great & I was fortunate enough to not have any video/sound/network problems. I always started CS the following way:
 
echo off
start /high hl.exe -console -game cstrike -noipx -nojoy -numericping
 
Well, without anticipating any problems in XP, I just naturally created the same batch file for my CS shortcut. After going into the game for the first time, all seemed well. I connected fine, & ghosted around the map without problem while waiting for the round to end. Once the round started, I bought my guns etc and left with the group. That's when problems arose.......
 
Here's what happens: If Im not moving around in the game, the mouse works fine. But once I start moving around I would get horrible mouse lag and movement lag. I would press the "strafe left" button but nothing would happen for about 1 second. Same with mouse movement.
 
I must have tried every Detonator, all sorts of mouse tweeking (Windows & in game), every D3D/OpenGl/Software mode resolution with no results. Man, I was stumped.
 
While fishing around my Sierra folder, I executed the hl.exe file instead of my shortcut and problem solved!?! Hmmmmm, what's up with that? I edited my shortcut & removed "start high" & now she runs sweet. I haven't fooled around with the "compatibility mode" yet, but will keep you posted.
