Not quite, what is the make and model of your CPU ?!?

There are a number of third party manufacturers out there that most likely will have a replacement for your CPU.

I have a similar problem with a IBM Aptive 2171 58U (noisy fan). Any suggestion where I can find instructions on how to take it out to see if I can match it to replace it?

Oh you have NO IDEA! My comp is on all the time and when the fan comes on, Better hope your not too close cause youll get sucked in. It starts my making a clicking noise... ( thats when you tell people to run for there lives) And then you hear it Power on, and WOOOOOOOSH! sounds like a jet engine... But I does the job so... Ill live with it. You can replace it, But i wouldnt turn it off or disconnect it... That could over heat your comp and cause serious damage. Ummm Call a comp place and ask them about how to go about replacing it. : )

Hi,

There's a little program called "Speedfan" which does exactly what it says, it monitors temps in the comp and can adjust fan speeds without causing any loss of function. I haven't got the program at the minute, had to start afresh, but its easy googled.
