CPU:Thermal question

I am overclocking my cpu hardcore. . . . 700-1000ghz. I got an aftermarket heatsink for it and under a full load, the cpu heats up to 40-41C. . . . is this hot?.

If I can do math right still....(After calculus, I vowed to forget it).

40C * 1.8 + 32 = ~104F. Not bad.

I don't think 40C is too hot, 50C I would worry. Mine's about 40C under load [500E @ 700]. I think 130F is too hot, but under that, it's just how cold you want it, obviously, cooler is better [to a point].

im oc'ed the same way (slot 1 piii)

i got the monster alpha hsf
it idles at 27.7/82
full load it only tops out at 35/95

played quake for hours and did cpu benchmarks forever
these temps are in line with what the alpha boasts

110 F was standard on my motherboard with 3 fans on my AMD system....
so it also depends on your CPU. Anyone can tell you that AMD chips run hotter than Intel. A delta of 10F for similar speed CPUs wouldn't surprise me at all.

My PIII 800eb@954, with LOTS of cooling and an alpha, peak at 33C/90F under full load. at Idle, it's 29C/84F

100--doing good
110--a bit hot, not dangerous
120--maybe add a few fans, but still not too bad
if it gets up to 130, you've got some cooling problems

Also, you must take into account ambient temperature. Unfortunately, my PC is by the heater, so when the register is open, my CPU's idle was at about 88 degrees, and peaking at 94. Without it open, it peaks at 88

My PC is warm. I think our fire wall is acting up.

Cool. Thanks for all the replies...I have a copper hedgehog with sunon fan...It seems to cool like crazy now that i've turn the fan around so it blows onto the heatsink, rather than sucks out....8c idle, and 35 full load..
But thanks
